Sources of Bad Breath

Most people are shocked that nutrients can attack and defeat most all sources

Sources of Bad Breath What are the actual sources of bad breath and are there any natural treatments that will work to defeat them?

If you suffer from this very embarrassing condition and you have tried everything under the sun to get rid of it, maybe it is time to identify the actual causes of it and then attack them internally.

The reason for this approach is twofold; you must identify the sources in order to treat them, and you must attack them from within your body head on instead of trying to mask them and cover them up with the conventional treatments.

What is it?

In identifying and then treating the sources of bad breath, it is quite helpful to understand what it is, what works and what does not, as well as exactly how treating it internally is so much more effective.

Bad breath is also referred to by another name, halitosis, and this condition is not only embarrassing, it can also lead to anxiety as you become more self-conscious the longer it is allowed to continue.

There may be some instances where it is the result of a very serious underlying medical condition, but this is considered to be very rare. In the vast majority of cases, if you can identify the sources of bad breath, you have just won the first battle. You may have not yet won the war, but the tide has turned in your favor.

Retail stores are full of all kinds of remedies for bad breath that range from gums, mints, mouthwashes, and there now are even pills for this condition, but most of these products are only temporary measures aimed at treating it. To win this war once and for all you need to defeat it from the inside, not the outside.

It can be very difficult to actually rate your own breath and there are several people that worry about it to the point of being excessive in their worries, but there are also people that have this condition and are not aware that they have it.

However, every one of these groups will all have something in common; most all cases of bad breath originate in the mouth.

Sources of Bad Breath:

The first step in this battle is to identify the sources of bad breath, and once this is done not only treat it with the proper dental hygiene, but fight it naturally as well with three key nutrients that will fight it internally.

Since most all cases of bad breath begin in the mouth, it is only natural that the first sources of bad breath will be food that you eat. However, it is much more extensive than just onions and garlic, for one very basic reason; the breakdown of food particles.

This breakdown of food particles in and around your teeth can very easily cause a foul odor, and it is very important to understand that some foods contain oils that are the source of these odors. Although onions and garlic are the most common forms of odor, there are several others.

What is not well known is that there are also several vegetables as well as spices that can very easily be the sources of bad breath, and is the major reason you have to attack this condition internally.

After these food sources have been digested, the have qualities that are referred to as pungent oils that are immediately absorbed into your blood stream. Once they are absorbed, they are then carried to your lungs where they affect your breath until they are completely eliminated in your body.

Since every human being is unique, it may be very difficult to identify which vegetables and spices may affect you, and as a result, trial and error may be the only hope to identify the actual source.

Because of this, the three nutrients that can help become even more important in this battle. The next major grouping of the sources of bad breath is dental problems. Poor dental hygiene, periodontal disease, as well as loose fitting dentures can all trigger this condition, and the same basic process comes into play with this group; food particles.

If you do not brush and floss on a regular basis, food particles will remain in your mouth and begin to collect bacteria, and once this occurs, several bad things begin to happen.

The first of these is the emission of a chemical called hydrogen sulfide, which is the exact same compound that is found in rotten eggs, and everyone knows what they smell like. Plague will also begin to form, which is a colorless film of bacteria that forms on your teeth.

If these sources of bad breath are not removed on a daily basis, it can cause gingivitis, tooth decay, as well as periodontitis, which is a very severe problem that will affect not only your teeth, but make your mouth odor even worse.

The next grouping of sources of bad breath includes dry mouth and disease. Dry mouth is especially dangerous as your saliva not only helps to clean your mouth; it also is a natural defense against bad odors in your mouth. Dry mouth is most common when you sleep and is the leading cause of what is referred to as morning breath.

However, there are some medications that can also very easily cause dry mouth.

Although most all cases of bad breath occurs in your mouth, it is estimated that about 10% of the cases do not. This 10% is the result of some type of illness, which is the next grouping of the sources of bad breath. Some forms of cancer and metabolic disorders produce certain chemicals that can lead to mouth odors, as well as diabetes, liver and kidney failure.

In fact, if you notice a fishy smell in your breath and it is not from fish, one of these diseases is likely the cause. However, there is one other much more common condition that may be one of the major sources of bad breath: GERD or acid reflux disease.

This disease is one of the fastest growing diseases in the world and is one of the major causes of mouth odors. Mouth, nose, and throat conditions are also sources of bad breath, as well as perhaps the largest cause of all, tobacco usage.

Nutrients:

There are three major nutrients that can help defeat most of these sources of bad breath; vitamin C, folic acid, and the mineral zinc.

Vitamin C preforms a long list of benefits for your body, but with this condition its most critical role is what it does for your connective tissues. This nutrient is critical is the production of collagen, which is the building block of tissues in your body. If these tissues are strong, it helps to protect your gums as well as all of your joints and ligaments.

Low levels of this nutrient can very easily lead to gingivitis, but it can also allow for the growth of bacteria in your mouth. Vitamin C is perhaps the strongest antioxidant of all the nutrients, and because of this. it is the internal mechanism you need to fight bacteria.

Folic acid also helps in the internal battle against the sources of bad breath as it is essential to both prevent as well as heal gum inflammation that is caused by any of the dental or nasal problems.

Zinc is the last of the nutrients that can help with this internal attack, as it is also very effective in removing bacteria form your mouth and is the major reason most mouthwashes contain this mineral.

However, it is also a very powerful antioxidant as well as a major player in building collagen.

When it is combined with vitamin C, it makes for a very powerful one-two internal punch against mouth odors.

Summary:

It is very difficult to avoid the sources of bad breath, but it most cases you can identify them and treat them internally with these three nutrients. If you or someone that you know suffers from this condition and nothing else has worked, maybe it is time you tested them for yourself.
