Riboflavin Deficiency and Liquid Vitamins

Riboflavin deficiency of this very important vitamin can alter
“iron metabolism”
and may impair the absorption of iron into your body, and also has the potential to affect many enzyme systems.
This nutrient is a water-soluble B vitamin, also known as vitamin B2. In the body, it is primarily found as an integral component of the coenzymes, flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) and flavin mononucleotide (FMN).
The function is that living organisms
derive most of their energy from oxidation-reduction (redox) reactions, which are critical for the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.
FAD is central to energy production.
Flavoproteins are involved in the metabolism of several other vitamins, (Vitamin B6, Niacin, and Folic acid).
Severe riboflavin deficiency may affect many enzyme systems.
Riboflavin deficiency also increases intestinal loss of iron,
and/ or may impair iron utilization for the synthesis of hemoglobin.
In humans, improving B2 status has been found to increase circulation
of hemoglobin levels.
Symptoms of this deficiency include sore throat, redness and swelling of the mouth and throat, cracks and sores on the outside of the lips, and corners of the mouth, and inflammation of and redness of the tongue.
Alcoholics are especially vulnerable
to the increased risk of deficiency due to decreased intake, decreased absorption, and impaired utilization of vitamin B2.
For this reason, liquid supplements may have a very beneficial impact on reversing
the decreased intake and absorption process.
Anorexic individuals are also at risk, as they rarely consume adequate intakes of this nutrient and lactose intolerant individuals may not consume milk or other dairy products which are good sources of vitamin B2.
B2 given in the proper requirements has been shown in studies in helping in the causes of "age related cataracts".
There is also evidence that indicates that impaired mitochondrial oxygen metabolism in the brain may play a role in the pathology of "migraine headaches".
Because B2 is the precursor of two flavocoenzymes (FAD & FMN) of the electron transport chain, supplemental B2 has been studied as a treatment for 'migraine headaches".
It has also shown to be effective in reducing the number of attacks and the number of headaches days.
However, you should always consult a physician before taking any type of supplement.
This nutrient is commonly found in a vitamin, multi-vitamin, and B-complex preparations.
There are several very good liquid supplements sources
in today's market that can help with preventing this deficiency.
