Riboflavin and Liquid Vitamins

Riboflavin is a water-soluble B vitamin, also known as vitamin B2.
In the body, it is primarily found as an integral component of the coenzymes, flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) and flavin mononucleotide (FMN).
The function is that living organisms derive
most of their energy from oxidation-reduction (redox) reactions, which are critical for the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. FAD is central to energy production.
Flavoproteins are involved in the metabolism of several other vitamins, (Vitamin B6, Niacin, and Folic acid).
Severe riboflavin deficiency may affect many enzyme systems.
For example, deficiency of this vitamin alters "iron metabolism",
and it may impair iron absorption, increases intestinal loss of iron, and/ or may impair iron utilization for the synthesis of hemoglobin.
In humans, improving B2 status has been found to increase circulation of hemoglobin levels.
Symptoms of B2 deficiency include sore throat, redness and swelling of the mouth and throat, cracks and sores on the outside of the lips, and corners of the mouth, and inflammation of and redness of the tongue.
Anorexic individuals are also at risk, as they rarely consume adequate intakes of riboflavin and lactose intolerant individuals may not consume milk or other dairy products which are good sources of vitamin B2.
B2 given in the proper requirements has been shown in studies in helping in the causes of "age related cataracts".
There is also evidence that indicates that impaired mitochondrial oxygen metabolism in the brain may play a role in the pathology of "migraine headaches".
Because B2 is the precursor of two flavocoenzymes (FAD & FMN) of the electron transport chain, supplemental B2 has been studied as a treatment for 'migraine headaches".
It has also shown to be effective in reducing the number of attacks and the number of headaches days.
However, you should always consult a physician before taking any type of supplement.
Food sources of B2 are in most plant and animal derived foods which will carry only small amounts of what is required. In the U.S., wheat flour and bread have been enriched with vitamin B2 since 1943.
However, studies have also shown that B2 is very sensitive to sunlight,
and in some cases up to 50% of the vitamin B2 in milk contained in clear plastic bottles can easily be destroyed after two hours of bright sunlight.
Foods that are naturally enriched with B2 include fortified cereals, milk, cheddar cheese, egg (cooked), almonds, salmon & halibut, (cooked), chicken (roasted), broccoli, asparagus, spinach, and whole wheat and white enriched bread.
This nutrient is commonly found in a vitamin, multi-vitamin, and B-complex preparations.
There are several very good liquid supplements sources in today's market that can help with riboflavin processes.
