Weight loss, metabolism, and vitamins, could vitamins actually help with weight loss?
Half of the experts will tell you no, and than give you the explanation that vitamins do not work at all, while the other half will try to sell you on the latest fad diet that will involve who knows what.
Than you will hear all of the equations involved with RMR or you’re resting metabolic rate and also you’re BMR, you’re Basel metabolic rate, or the miracle pill that you can simply take to make you loss weight, and the list goes on and on.
But use some plain old common sense, and admit you are what you eat.
Although there can be issues that can cause you to gain weight such as a medical conditions, medications that you may be taking, lack of sleep, stress, or menopause, which cases the loss of estrogen, it will still boil down to what and how you eat and how you do or do not supplement your body.
But what if you could assist your body in burning fuel faster, and no, no a magical pill?
Your body must metabolize itself constantly and there will be several other experts that say if you can increase metabolism within your body, you can naturally lose weight. At least that makes some common sense. Like an engine running, your body needs fuel, but if your body converts that fuel faster, it will start to lighten up.
This process is basically the chemical processing that takes place in any living organism, at the result is growth, generation of energy, elimination of waste, and several other body functions that are relevant to distributing nutrients into the bloodstream after we have digested them.
Metabolism can be summed up as the chemical processing function in which cells produce differing materials and energy that is required for life to exist.
Any type of organism will conduct two types of metabolism, anabolism and catabolism on a constant basis. Catabolic metabolism burns up the energy that is created, and anabolic metabolism stores it and builds it up.
Hormones found within our bodies control both types, and the thus the direction of metabolism.
Both fatty acids or amino acids, and glucose molecules are involved with this process, and our diets are the source of these molecules.
Digestion processes split the dietary proteins into amino acids, dietary fats are split into fatty acids, and carbohydrates are split into glucose.
All of this is caused by enzymes, which than are absorbed by the body and transported to the cells of your body by your blood stream.
However, water is still the medium for the various enzyme and chemical reactions in the body. It is what actually moves all of these nutrients, antibodies and oxygen through the blood streams and the lymphatic system.
These proteins and enzymes in our body function a lot better in low viscosity, and water is the solvent in the body that regulates all of these functions.
Water is the carrier of chemical energy, and if your body does not receive an adequate water supply, your body activates a chemical compound that is found in all cells, histamine, to initiate a form of water regulation.
The ratio of water that can be found both inside and outside of our cells is very important not only to metabolism, but also to maintain healthy organs. This is especially important as we get older as the water content in cells decreases.
Ok, so what is the point of all this so far, and how can weight loss and vitamins possibly be related.
Water is essential to bringing metabolism to its full capacity, as our body is actually slightly over two-thirds water.
It is essential for almost every metabolic function in your body, and if you do not get enough water, metabolism will not burn calories or fat anywhere near as efficiently.
In understanding vitamins relationship to metabolism, it is important to understand that vitamins do not yield usable energy when broken down. They have no calories to yield any energy.
However, they assist the enzymes that release the energy form carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, and they are required for these chemical reactions to be fully effective, especially the water soluble B vitamin class as well as vitamin C.
Especially important to the metabolic functions is Vitamin B6.
This vitamin must be obtained either from your diet or through supplements, as your body can not produce it.
It is perhaps the most important vitamin in metabolism as it plays a critical role with approximately 100 enzymes that catalyze essential chemical reactions in your body.
Vitamin B6 is also essential in catalyzing the release of glucose from stored glycogen, or essentially it metabolizes fat into energy. Exactly what you should be doing if you are trying to loose weight.
Vitamin B2, Riboflavin, is a very close second in providing metabolic efficiency, as it supports energy production by the assisting in the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. It also plays a major role in regulating thyroid activity.
Vitamin B3, or Niacin, plays a role in burning fats, proteins, and carbohydrates in your body. It has also been found to be associated with the synthesis of starch that can be stored in the bodies muscle and liver and converting that into energy.
Fat based hormones such as steroid hormones require this nutrient in the synthesis process as well.
Vitamin B12, which is only manufactured by microorganisms, is exclusively from animals. Its value in the metabolic process in your body is that it functions as a coenzyme in several ways. It helps in oxidizing fatty acids and also assists with folic acid in the syntheses of amino acid.
Vitamin B12 has also been found to help you digest food faster and therefore burn it off much quicker in the form of energy, thus the term the energy vitamin.
And finally there is Vitamin C, considered the multi usage vitamin, as it helps in the conversion of glucose to energy as it is required for the synthesis of carnitine.
Carnitine plays a major role in energy production as it helps to transport fatty acids into molecules so they can be oxidized to produce energy.
Some of the most recent advances in both the bio-chemical and medical communities, have finally started to accept the roles that vitamins play in our bodies; but remember it took this same medical community over 200 years to finally accept that Vitamin B1, Thiamine, and a deficiency of this vitamin, was the cause of Beriberi.
Instead of the next miracle diet, or a miracle pill that eats fat, why not try some plain old vitamins, drink a lot of water, at least 6 to 8 glasses day to lubricate your body, exercise daily in some form, and let metabolism work at full capacity, unless you are certain the diets that you have tried, and tired, and tried again, actually do work.
