Biotin and Liquid Vitamins

Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin, and liquid vitamins and minerals can help in this nutrient’s processes as they are much easier to swallow and absorb much more efficiently.

It is generally classified as a B-complex vitamin.

After the initial discovery of this nutrient, several benefits and a myriad of uses started to emerge.

After nearly forty years of research was done, it was classified as a vitamin. This nutrient is required by all organisms but can only be synthesized by bacteria, yeast, molds, algae, and some plants.

In its active form, this nutrient is attached at the active site of four very important enzymes, known as carboxylases. Each carboxylase catalyzes as essential metabolic reaction within your body and the major reason why this nutrient is so important to your body.

These metabolic reactions include the synthesis of fatty acids, the formation of glucose from sources other than carbohydrates, for example amino acids and fats, the metabolism of leucine, an essential amino acid, and the metabolism of cholesterol.

Although a deficiency of this nutrient is very rare, the benefits and the human requirement for dietary supplementation of this nutrient has been demonstrated that overt deficiency and the lack of proper amounts of this nutrient can result in the following symptoms:

Hair loss, and in some cases a scaly red rash around the eyes, nose, mouth, and genital area.

Neurological symptoms in adults include depression, lethargy, hallucination, and numbness and tingling of the extremities.

There is also another symptom of this nutrient deficiency referred to as "biotin deficient face", in which a characteristic facial rash is combined with an unusual distribution of facial fat.

There are also two hereditary disorders; biotinidase deficiency and holocarboxylase synthesize (HCS) deficiency that results in an increased requirement of this nutrient.

Biotinidase is an enzyme that catalyzes the release of this nutrient from small proteins and the amino acid, and lysine, thereby recycling the nutrient.

This nutrient during pregnancy may also be required. The reason is rapidly dividing cells of the developing fetus require biotin for DNA replication and synthesis of essential carboxylases.

It has been known for years that overt deficiency results in impaired utilization of glucose.

This nutrient has been found to stimulate glucokinase, an enzyme in the liver, resulting in increased synthesis of glycogen, the storage form of glucose.

Brittle fingernails in humans have also been attributed to the lack of this nutrient, as research has indicated benefits of supplements have greatly enhanced hoof abnormalities in horses and swine.

This nutrient is found in many foods, but generally in lower amounts than other water-soluble vitamins.
